Independent Study:
Modular
Tiny House
The project was completed as part of an undergraduate independent study that looked at how modular tiny homes could be used to provide housing on vacant lots. The study incorporated several case studies and a research project specifically looking at tiny homes in Detroit that make use of vacant properties. The homes have a footprint of 225 sq/ft and uses a modular CLT panel system, making the assembly of each home quick and easy. The interior spaces are designed using principles researched throughout the study, in order to make spaces that are multi-functional. The units have their own water collection while interior spaces include: a kitchen, living space, washroom, and loft in addition to a small outdoor space for gardening, allowing for low cost and highly sustainable living conditions.
